Multi-Age Learning
Welcome

Our centre philosophy, what we believe in...
"At Knight Street, we are committed to nurturing a vibrant sense of community where genuine connections and active participation shape every child’s journey. Our philosophy is rooted in establishing authentic, reciprocal relationships with both children and their families - relationships that build trust and honour each individual’s story.
By celebrating each child’s unique identity, we foster an environment where individuality is respected, and every voice is empowered.
We endeavour to embed the rich cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as well as the diverse backgrounds of our educators. We embrace culturally responsive practices that acknowledge traditional custodianship alongside our modern, inclusive pedagogies. In doing so, in conjunction with educator-informed ‘Risky Play’ initiatives, we create educational settings that support agency, autonomy, and exploration, ensuring children have the freedom to engage confidently with their surroundings, ideas, and social worlds.
Our curriculum is a dynamic, responsive document that interweaves each child’s developmental needs, interests, and stages with our core commitment to equitable access, participation, and expectations. By integrating trauma-informed care and drawing from the profound wisdom of Indigenous perspectives, we nurture confidence, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing. We believe that empowering children to steer their own learning journeys - promoting individuality and agency - forms the foundation of resilient, lifelong learners.
The BEE’s programme is a hands-on initiative that deepens children’s understanding of environmental responsibility and sustainable living. Through activities such as tending to gardens, caring for chickens, and exploring farm-to-plate processes, children forge a meaningful connection with the natural world and their local communities. This approach not only bolsters environmental awareness but also strengthens the bonds between children, families, and educators, rooted in mutual respect and shared experience.
Our philosophy reflects our staff’s shared beliefs and strategies, guiding daily routines and professional practice with unwavering respect for children, families, and each other. Together, we create an inclusive, empowering learning environment that honours every child's uniqueness, supports their autonomy, and nurtures their agency. In doing so, we pay tribute to diverse cultural traditions, whilst paving the way for confident, resilient learners in a truly connected community."
