Fun Groups First Day

The first day of Fungroup for 2019! The children were all extremely eager to begin their day.

When they first entered the room, children were shown were to put their bags. I had set up some painting on one of the tables and the children all sat together and began to create their masterpieces! Next week I want to hang these pictures on one of the walls so as children begin to feel a sense of self whilst they are in the room. I want the room to feel personal to them.

As it was the first day, children had the opportunity to do free play. There were jigsaws, blocks, books ect, set up around the room. There was also a table which had been set up with scrap paper and scissors. The children enjoyed sitting and working on their cutting skills (fine motor skills) and cut the paper into all different shapes and sizes.

At 10am we sat as a group and ate morning tea together. The children were so excited that they got to bring in their own lunchboxes and eat food from home! Next week, I would like to do a group time before morning tea as well as getting the children to begin cleaning the room beforehand.

All in all, it was a very successful first day.

Reflection of Learning

Children began working on their fine motor skills today through a range of activities. Building with the blocks, painting and cutting are all examples of the ways in which children worked on this skill.

I also began working on colour and name recognition. Whilst painting, I was asking the children which colours I was pouring into the pots - some were able to recognise the colours and some were not.  I also introduced the first letters of their names today by painting alongside the children and showing them how to paint the first letter in their name.
